Very few people know how to live to be truly healthy. Why should they? Even standing in line in the grocery store, we are bombarded with “junk science” and fad diets. It is hard to know what to believe. Despite many health professionals’ good intentions, the industry is geared toward prescriptions (to mask the underlying problem) and performing surgeries for a “quick fix” solution. It’s a no-brainer: without the main focus of our health care system being on preventing problems before they start, the same problems will come back again.
Americans spend more money on health care than any other country in the world and, ironically, also more money on gym memberships and diet remedies. Two thirds of our population is overweight and one third of the population is obese. These numbers are not shrinking and neither are we. Hmmm… I wonder why? Obesity, not to mention heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke -- which are all the leading cause of death in our country-- were not common 100 years ago. These ailments should not be considered “normal “as we age. It is obvious we need to make some big changes! Our society can’t afford (literally and figuratively speaking) to continue down this path of disease.
There is a way to prevent or reverse heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, high cholesterol, strokes, dementia, digestive problems (like constipation, hemorrhoids, etc), circulatory problems (like high blood pressure), body odor and bad breath (although the last two won’t kill you, they might be killing your neighbor). No kidding! We can expect to have a longer life, look younger (by aging slower), and continue to live with top energy levels, intelligence and even productivity. In order to get great health we’ve got to knock-out a few social norms and even change the way we think about food and health.
